Álex Herrerías (México, 1981) After exploring different interests (even toying at some point with Architecture), Álex Herrerías decided that his path was in illustration and got a degree on this specialization at the National School of Plastic Arts (now known as the Faculty of Arts and Design) from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He has collaborated with different publishing houses, among which can be listed Penguin Random House, Edebé, Santillana, Richmond, Macmillan, Castillo, McGrawhill, Pearson, Oxford University Press, SM, University of Dayton Publishing, Sistema UNO, AMCO, Grupo Editorial Patria, Norma, Editorial Progreso, Trillas, Larousse, Esfinge, Artes de México and Edimend. Herrerías has also worked for the magazines Glamour, GQ, and Travel and Leisure, besides institutions such as the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP), the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and the National Sounds Recording Library in México. He illustrated the publication Vivir los valores, niños de valor, under request of Televisa Foundation. In the field of animation, he developed the twelve-episode project Primeras grandes lecturas for Proyecto 40. Herrerías has been invited to impart lectures on his work and his life in the illustration environment at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the University of the Mexican Valley and the Insurgentes University. Among other recognitions, he has received the a! Diseño magazine award in the category of Illustration in 2014, the Behance medal in illustration at the Behance Portfolio Reviews at Mexico City in 2013, an honorary mention in the 23rd Catalogue of Illustrators for Children and Youth Publications of CONACULTA in 2013, a silver mention in the a! Diseño magazine award in illustration in 2011 and his work was selected at the poster contest Invitemos a Leer in its 22nd and 25th editions. Herrerías is a founding member of the Mexican Association of Illustrators. To this date he can say with complete assurance that he is a happy illustrator.
